20-23 Inches Snowblowers
Flexible Machines for Specific Needs

20-23 inches snowblowers are mid-sized snow blowers that can clear paths of anywhere between 20 inches and 23 inches wide in a single pass. Most of these are single stage snow blowers. There are some two stage models too but they are less common.

Some of these machines are electrically powered while some are gas-powered. Electric models are simpler to maintain, but they do come with a power cord that can restrict movement. Gas-powered models run on gasoline, if you have a 4 cycle model, or a mixture of gasoline and oil, if you have a 2 cycle model. These may not be the smallest, but they are still pretty compact, making them easy to store.

Take note, however, that these machines cannot be used in gravel driveways. This is because the augers that chew up snow are also what propel the machine forward, so they touch the ground and thus will not work on gravel drives.

When to Use Them

Although 20-23 inches snowblowers are also fairly small, they are capable of handling more snow than the more compact 12-19 inch models. With clearing widths of 20 to 23 inches, the machines can be used when clearing away smaller spaces. They work best when used on snow coverage of 4 to 8 inches, but can also be used for deeper snow coverage although the going may be slower.

#1 Greenworks 26032 Electric Snow Thrower at 20 Inches

If you are looking for 20-23 inches snowblowers that run on electricity, check out the Greenworks 26032, which does not just use electricity for convenience and less hassle, but also uses it efficiently. True enough, the Greenworks 26032 is very environment-friendly. It has absolutely zero carbon emissions like all other Greenworks models. So if you want to help protect the environment while you clear your driveway of snow, then this is the ideal model for you.

The Greenworks 26032 is powered by a 12 amp electric motor, which has just enough power for clearing 10 inch deep snow coverage and 20 inch wide paths. And since many people complain about the danger hazard of power cords, Greenworks adds a safety cord lock feature.

The electric snow thrower is equipped with large 8 inch wheels and an adjustable ergonomic handlebar with rubber grip for comfort and stability. Although a bit heavy at 37 lbs., the handlebar and the wheels make maneuvering easy. This sells for $200 and comes with a 4-year warranty.

#2 Murray 1695537 Single Stage Snow Thrower at 21 Inches

The Murray 1695537 is a bit larger at 21 inches. However, this snowblower is gas-powered and does not use electricity. It is powered by a 190cc 4 cycle OHV gas engine from Briggs and Stratton’s Snow Series. It is also a single stage model, which means it uses only an auger to both pick up snow and send it to the discharge chute.

Despite the small difference in size, this machine is so much more expensive than the Greenworks model at its price of $400. It is highly recommended for light snow conditions ranging between 4 and 8 inches of coverage. Thanks to its clog-resistant chute, clearing snow from your small driveway, patio, sidewalk, or parking space is easier and trouble-free. Consumers also find it light and easy to maneuver. And when winter ends, you can easily store it by folding down the handle.

#3 Yard Machines 31A-32AD700 Two Stage Snow Thrower at 22 Inches

If you prefer a two stage snowblower for clearing more than 10 inch deep snow coverage, check out the Yard Machines 31A-32AD700 compact two stage model with a 22-inch clearing width. The snow thrower is powered by a 179cc OHV 4 cycle gas engine, which is not the most powerful engine found in a two stage model but one that is sufficient for a snow blower of this size.

This is the perfect tool for clearing smaller areas but heavy and deep snow coverage where single stage 22 inchers would be insufficient. As a two stage model, it comes with a 9-inch auger and a 10-inch impeller that picks up snow and throws it with force to cover a greater distance. The chute then rotates 180 degrees so you can choose the best direction for your throw. This model does not have all the highest technical specs around. Its engine is less powerful than those found in some single stage models, and it has only a single forward speed.

Thankfully, it does have some additional features that are worth paying for, such as the EZ chute rotation system, the large mitten grip handle, and the large, easily maneuverable pneumatic tires. Despite these added features, the snowblower is a bit expensive at $650.

Must-Have Features

20-23 inches snowblowers are very flexible. This size is sandwiched between small and large, so the snow that they can deal with also lies in the middle ground. Thus, you need to be very specific about what you are looking for when shopping at this size. Aside from the clearing width, you should look at the motor or engine capacity, the intake height, and the drive system. These are the most important factors to consider when it comes to snowblowers of this size.
