My father (who's handicapped) bought this machine for me (a woman) in 1977. Didn't know about shirr pins and thought I broke it during the blizzard of '78. Neighbor came to my rescue and since then , "WHAT A GREAT MACHINE".
Today is Jan. 27, 2011. The machine finally gave up after 34 years of very heavy use; with very little time in the repair shop. I gonna go buy a new 2-stage Ariens. I could just cry. I"m gonna miss this machine like an old, reliable, best friend who doesn't talk back. I think I'm heartbroken over this loss.
