MTD 315E633E401 snowblower

by andy
(Franklin, WI)

Generally I have been happy with this snow blower. However, recently I had to purchase a new gearbox assembly as a driveway marker got caught in the auger and the shear pins did not break. This is when I found out that replacements parts are extremely expensive.

MTD gouges people for parts, hoping they will either pay up or buy a new snow blower. Clearly this is unethical because it encourages people to throw away otherwise good working equipment because of the cost of repairs. General Electric is another company that does the same.

Really there is no excuse for charging $230 for a gear box when a new snow blower costs $750. This part probably cost them $40 so even with a 100% markup this part should cost no more than $80.

As such, I would not recommend buying any brand of MTD product.
