Plow Blades
The Easy Solution

When consumers want to hook up Plow Blades to tractors or ATVs, there are assorted models available. In addition, there are several issues that need to be considered such as the width of the vehicle from outside tire to tire. For example a 60” snow plow is capable of clearing a path 53” wide when it’s angled all the way to the left or right, and a 50” plow can clear a path 44½” side.

In addition, if a 60” plow blade is desired, the vehicle driving it would require at least 450cc engine; otherwise the vehicle won’t have enough weight over the front wheels to maneuver with the blade full of snow. The radius and curvature of the blade must also be considered because the smaller radius with greater curve is best for driveways with moderate snow. Tapered blades are more suited for large open areas with heavy snow.

Top Three Models

There are numerous manufacturers that make highly rated plow blades that can attach to either tractors or ATVs. Three of the highest rated models are shown below:

WARN ProVantage 50” Straight Plow Blade, Model 78950

For consumers seeking a highly rated Plow Blade, the WARN ProVantage 50” Straight Plow Blade, Model 78950 is highly rated and is made from very thick 12 gauge steel. This is one of the most durable blades on the market that provides the exceptional performance that consumers are looking for in snow removal equipment. This model is very straightforward to connect, but the mountain plate and the push bar/plow base must also be purchased in order to connect the blade to the vehicle, and it generally takes less than a couple of hours to install.

The ribbing on this model are heavy duty for those tough jobs, and a center cross piece is added for additional stability and rigidity of the blade. The boxed design also provides additional support. The dimensions of this model are measured at 52 inches in length, 10 inches in width, and seven inches high, and weigh 58 pounds.

This blade is priced under $220, and several consumers stated that this is a heavy duty model that is easy to attach and does a great job removing the snow.

Arnold 45” Snow Blade, Model OEM-190-833

For consumers who need a little bit smaller Plow Blade, the Arnold 45” Snow Blade, Model OEM-190-833 is a great addition to the tool shed. This model is a dozer blade that fits all MTD lawn-type garden tractors. It is designed with a quick change angle adjuster that is changeable from a straight ahead to a 30 degree angle either to the right or the left. The spring loaded blade return protects both the tractor and the blade.

The skid shoes that come with the blade are adjustable in order to allow the height of the blade to be set up to two inches above the ground level. This model weighs 82 pounds and the dimensions are measured at 50 ½ inches wide by 7 4/5 inches wide by 16 inches deep. It’s recommended that this be coupled with tire chains and wheel weights for added stability to the tractor.

This model is priced under $350, and the consumers stated that this does a great job in lighter weight snow that is not as deep or heavy, and easily installed.

Swisher 50” Universal Work Duty ATV Plow Blade, Model 2545R

For the consumers who are looking for a Plow Blade specifically for an ATV, the Swisher 50” Universal Work Duty ATV Plow Blade, Model 2545R is a highly rated choice. This is a heavily constructed model that is designed with extra supports that can easily perform when required to remove that heavy wet snow that accompanies so many blizzards in the wintertime. This is a 50 inch blade that is made from 1/8 inch steel for durability and reliability.

It has a unique double lock for the plow angle that ensures the plow maintains a consistent angle, and it has a lift height between 18 and 24 inches. A universal mounting kit allows the plow to be attached in just a few seconds and without any special tools or mounting supports. This model weighs 80 pounds and measures 52” long, by 12” wide, by 19½” high.

This model is priced under $500 and consumers stated that this model is very each to attach to the ATV and it does a superb job of removing snow; even when it is very wet and heavy snow coupled with ice.

Recommendations

Rather than buying a separate snow thrower; Plow Blades that attach to an ATV or a tractor are more economical choices and they are easy to install. These come in a wide range of sizes that measure up to 72 inches, but consumers need to be aware of the engine size of the vehicle that is going to run the blade to insure that the blade doesn’t overpower the vehicle. For the right size, these can easily remove snow that is heavy and wet for larger models, and for the smaller models, smaller amounts of fluffier snow is easily handled.
