Toro Snow Shovels
Taking Snow Removal to the Next Level

Toro snow shovels are not your typical snow removal shovel. Toro is one of the leading manufacturers of electric snow blowers and one of the well-recognized gas-powered snow blowers. Thus, its most popular snow removal tools are electric-powered, which are also known as electric shovels or power shovels.

These are equipped with electric motors that need to be plugged to an electric outlet to run. Once plugged on, it will keep on working and won’t need gas refills like gas powered models do. Toro’s electric-powered shovels are easier to use and require less effort.

They don’t need to be hauled around, and you don’t have to exert too much effort in scooping, lifting, and throwing. They can also save your back from a lot of strain. Just make sure to choose the right model for you.

How to Choose Your Toro Snow Shovel

Toro snow shovels are mostly used for light to moderate snow coverage in small to medium spaces. These are not meant to clear away deep and heavy snow coverage in large spacious areas. When choosing, check the electric motor’s power rating, which is measured in terms of amps. Toro’s offers come with 7.5, 12, and 15 amp motors. After that, check the clearing widths, which usually range from 12 to 18 inches. If you need to tackle heavier snow in larger spaces, look for two stage gas models from Toro or other manufacturers.

#1 Toro 38361 Power Shovel

If you’re under a budget, the inexpensive $150 electric powered Toro Power Shovel, model 38361, is ideal for you. This is the most basic model among all Toro snow shovels. It has a small 7.5 amp electric motor and a 12-inch clearing width, which means it is only meant for the lightest of snow conditions and the smallest of areas such as sidewalks, steps, stairs, and so on. Despite these, it can eat up to 6 inch snow depths, which is good enough compared to other models whose intake heights are only 4 inches.

Since this is electrically powered, it saves you from a lot of soreness in your back. It automatically throws snow up to around 20 feet away, allowing the small but effective machine to move up to 300 pounds of snow in a minute. And since this weighs just 13 pounds, it won’t really be that much heavier than a regular snow shovel. Other features include a poly v-belt auger drive system, a safety key lock, and a user-friendly push drive system.

#2 Toro 38381 Power Curve Snow Thrower

A bit more powerful than a compact snow shovel, the Toro 38381 Power Curve lies just along the line between Toro snow shovels and Toro snow throwers. This is a mid-sized model, which means it is not too small and not too large. It is made for light to average snow coverage and for small to mid-sized spaces. It is also more powerful than you’d initially think, though, as users were glad to find out.

With a 15 amp motor and a clearing width of 18 inches, the Toro Power Curve can move up to 700 pounds of snow per minute and can throw it up to 30 feet away. It can take in up to 10 inch deep snow coverage.

Toro loaded this machine with several unique and effective technologies, such as the Power Curve system. This makes use of a curved rotor that more effectively and speedily chews up snow as it enters the machine. And with the Quick Lever, throwing snow toward your desired direction is easy and effortless. This is supported by a Zip Deflector design that ensures the distance of every throw. This is great for those who live in areas that get more snow than a regular shovel can handle.

One of Toro’s most popular and most widely reviewed model is the Toro 1800 snow thrower. This is another model of electrically-powered Toro snow shovels. However, to maximize the use of the electric motor, Toro loaded the equipment with greater capability. While it has only an 18-inch clearing width, which is quite small, it does come with a powerful 12 amp motor and an adjustable chute that rotates up to 160 degrees so you can throw snow where you want to.

The Toro 1800 can eat up snow coverage that goes up to 10 inches high, and can throw them up to 30 feet away. This has a light but durable plastic body and a metal handle for strength and durability.

The Downside of Toro Power Shovels

Toro snow shovels may be convenient due to their use of powerful electric motors. But they are also quite a hassle to use sometimes due to the power cord. While you work, you always have to be mindful of the power cord so it won’t become a safety hazard. The length of the cord will also limit you in terms of how far you can reach. So if you don’t want to have to deal with a power cord, Toro’s electric shovels are not for you.
